BRITISH HORSERACING AUTHORITY STAFF JOIN AN INTERNATIONAL ARMY OF 17,000 VOLUNTEERS TO SUPPORT GIVE & GAIN DAY 2011
On Friday 24th June nine employees from the British Horseracing Authority in London swapp their usual Friday at work for a day giving back to their local community.
They took part in Give & Gain Day, the UK's only national day of employee volunteering, run by business charity Business in the Community. The campaign gives employees a unique opportunity to make a difference to the communities they live and work in.
Volunteers from the British Horseracing Authority were in good company as they joined an international army of over 17,000 volunteers who were out and about making a positive difference in their local communities. It is believed that £1 million of man hours will be injected in community projects around the globe by Give & Gain Day 2011 participants.
Working in teams, the British Horseracing Authority's volunteers contributed their skills, talent and experience to help groups with real needs in the community. They worked with SportsInspired to deliver a Community Sports Day for local children.
In a recent consultation with its membership Business in the Community identified employee volunteering as one of the key ways that businesses can develop meaningful, sustainable relationships with communities. Give & Gain Day demonstrates the power of employee volunteering and is an excellent way of introducing businesses to the impact they can have in local communities and the benefits it can bring to their business.
Commenting on Give & Gain Day, Gennie Franklin, Business in the Community, Director of Programmes & Employee Volunteering said "we're pleased that the British Horseracing Authority has joined our global movement of employee volunteers this year. Volunteering is one way in which businesses can start to build real relationships and help to transform the communities they live and work. The companies that take part in Give & Gain Day 2011 should be proud of their involvement, as their activities will make a real lasting difference on the lives of those people with the greatest need. Staff benefit too as it's a valuable way to have fun, learn and develop new skills".
Michelle Douglas from the British Horseracing Authority said "Give & Gain Day is a fantastic way to get involved with the community, meet new people and make a difference. Volunteering is a great experience and it's great to get out of the office for a worthwhile cause."
Give & Gain Day is run by Business in the Community, with national sponsors Lloyds Banking Group, Eversheds LLP and Hewlett Packard in association with BT and GyroHSR.
